James has been Catholic all his life and started his life in ministry in 4th grade when he decided to start altar serving at St. Nicholas Parish--Evanston. Since then, he has participated in Music Ministry, Liturgical Ministry, including being the co-founder of the Sacristan Ministry, sat on the Parish Pastoral Council and Liturgy Council at St. Nicholas Parish, and the Pope John XXIII School Board. James specialized in Youth & Young Adult Ministry in his ministry training, but is versed in lifelong formation. James is a theologian and specializes in studying Liberation Theology. James collaborates with LoyolaPress on writing projects.
In the community, James has worked for the McGaw YMCA, where he worked in Youth Services as the Coordinator of the Fluency Tutoring Program for District 65 as well as chaired the LGBTQ Task Force, which provided training and resources to the entire organization and was the staff liaison for the Residence Safety Task Force and Residence Committee, which served the men who resided at McGaw. James is a certified Camp Director and Youth Development Specialist through the American Camp Association and is the Associate Director of Kids Playing Camp. James holds certifications in Youth Development from various organizations. James serves as an Organizational Partner of Evanston Cradle to Career and Evanston Work Ethic. James serves on the Community Advisory Board at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital.
James is a member of the Benedictine Order and belongs to the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago as an Oblate. James has a degree in Religious Studies with Non-Profit Management from DePaul University and has background in Campus Ministry both at DePaul University and John Carroll University as well as advocacy with the Latinx community and for LGBTQ students.
